Scoring: IMP

North South
1....1
2....2
pass

Before his final pass, East wiggled a bit.

West leads the spade queen. What is your plan?

Why do you duck? If they switch s you might never reach dummy to cash 2 good s. :(

I take the spade queen. Then I cash K and play a diamond to the A. I then cash the A and Q of hearts pitching a diamond. (Did anything interesting happen?) If not, I ruff a diamond and exit with a club. I should hopefully be up to 6 tricks by now, with the A to come. I'm hoping that opponents will let me ruff a red suit for my 8th trick.

Echo: if you play like that, why not finessing the diamond on the way?

I rebid 2 just in case you would like to know.
Take it, unblock K and finesse the . If it wins hope that break and ruff a for your 8th trick. If it loses you have to make two of your little , a somewhat tougher job.

I refuse the finesse because I don't want the opponents playing on clubs and discarding red suits before I get my ruff in. My goal is 8 tricks. Granted, if the diamond finesse works, then 8 tricks seems much easier.

Opps that's thrue, playing too much low lovel MP latelly, at IMPs I gess that's a silly line.

Anyway its ahrd to base my plan on the fact east didn't pass in tempo, I have to know him, exactly how much has he though etc etc, and you cannot explain that with words.

:D
Why get active? Win the spade, cash the offending heart king, and lead a club. Your long spade is probably a trick anyway unless spades are 5-2 or 6-1. The diamond hook will still be there. I would duck the spade, but as one analyst pointed out, we do not want a diamond shift. Show me a good plan to score TWO ruffs in my hand so as to make 2 spades, and I will go for it.

Thx all. In practice we all go down because spades are 6-1(!!!) and the diamond king is offside.

I just wondering whether it was best to try for the 8th trick via the diamond finesse or to try and establish the clubs. Clubs seems to me a little bit better. There is always time to try the diam finesse later.

The diamond finesse would go 1 down here. Trying clubs first goes 3 down because they break 4-1... oops

RHO's wiggle was due to him thinking of making a take-out double. Good thing he didn't... lol. (In any case if it were doubled I wouldn't try any finesse or funny moves. I'd cash 7 tricks in double-quick time.)
