Hi, my wife and I play on BBO and we get very different interfaces on mobile/browser. She doesn't get most of the free robot acbl tournaments (free daylong 1 2 3 etc).

here are both screenshots for comparison

We implemented a new style of tournament listing a couple of months ago, but we've been rolling it out gradually. So some users (your wife) get the new interface, others (you) still have the old one.

Oh, i see!

But the free acbl world tournaments are under a different set of filters then? Could you help us? Thanks!

This is my first glimpse of the new listing, luckily I do not have it yet.
Now I see what BBO Italia was complaining about, it looks like the unanimously negative feedback was justified.
What are your objectives and what are the presumed advantages over the old interface?

The main feature of the new interface is advanced filtering.

No, you should see the same format for all the pending tournament lists.

The new format isn't in the Running and Completed tabs.

Does that mean it will finally stop showing me tournaments I am not authorized to play in?
If so, great.
But why does it take up so much vertical screen space for each tournament, why are they not ordered by time, and why is it showing running tournaments when pending was selected?

No. The advanced filtering I was talking about is the "Filters" button that you can see in the screenshot above. With this you're given a number of detailed filters. Some of these mirror the criteria in the different tournament type buttons, but it allows you to mix and match them.

The reason we don't filter out the tournaments you're not authorized to play in is because of complexity. Every criterion requires custom code to check whether a user fits, and checking dozens of tournaments every time you download the tournament list would throw a heavy load on the server. So we defer this until you try to register, just to check that one tourney's rules.

The new filters use simple checks that can be done in the client application.

Thanks for all the answers. I do have an extra question. Are the free acbl daylong tournaments all gone? I can see only paid ones now.

Players with fewer than 5 ACBL Masterpoints can play all ACBL Daylongs for free. That’s why you were seeing them as free before. After your August results were reported and your total updated to 9+ points (congrats on that!), you’re no longer eligible for the “new players” promo.

You can still join a free ACBL game every day in the ACBL Clubhouse, open to players under 20 points. It starts at 2pm US Eastern -- come online to register a few minutes early. These are live, timed games with people (not daylongs), so you’ll need to play in tempo. You don’t need a partner: sometimes you’ll have a robot partner, other times it’s individual with new partners and opponents each round.
