I just published a free Chrome extension called BBOtext.
It remembers and auto-completes text you enter for Chat, Announcements, Alerts, and Explanations.

Here's a 3-minute video demo.
Link to web page.
Link to install on Chrome Web Store.

This sounds WONDERFUL as I can't get Chat Manager to work.

Does this work on a Mac? A few minutes ago I followed the video instructions but could not get it to 'chat'. Thanks!

You need to restart BBO if it was already open when you installed the extension.

If that was not the issue, please email me at: ido@MilletSoftware.com
and I'll invite you to a screen share.

Cheers,
- Ido

Hi Ido

It worked! What did happen though was my font on BBO changed dramatically and is harder to read. Very cool indeed!

I don't see any font change in my browser.
Could you email me so we can do a screen share?

Just an update: the font on a MAC indeed becomes noticeably thinner and lighter.
A new version fixing that issue will replace the existing version once the Chrome team finishes reviewing it.

Just published a newer version (1.0.19) that fixes an issue with positioning of the auto-complete text popups.

You can update extensions to latest versions using the Extensions Manager:
  • Open chrome://extensions in a new Chrome tab.
  • Enable Developer mode.
  • Click the Update button to update your installed extensions to their latest versions.

Hey there

Could you explain how this is different from BBOAlert?

BBOtext offers intuitive text auto-complete with no required setup.
BBOAlert is very powerful (includes automatic bid explanations) but more complex.

Here's a 3-minute video demo: https://youtu.be/hgB37ooZUX8.

Looks very interesting, and solves the issues I have with BBOAlert. Currently most of my bridge is on firefox, but I can switch to Opera to try it.

While you're not doing it completely, you have seen the following tweet?

Cows are sacred so I opted for a video tutorial :)

You need Chrome (not Opera) for this Chrome extension.
Firefox has a 3.6% market share compared to 64% by Chrome.
Still, if I see enough requests for it, I may release this extension for Firefox as well.

Would love to see it for Firefox, as have never been able to make BBO Alert work in Firefox.

Yes, but Chrome is owned by Google and that means it hoovers everything. Plus it will only install in a snap these days. Chrome extensions work in Opera or other chromium-based browsers, usually. I'll let you know.

Note that I tend not to do much normal - Firefox on Ubuntu running i3-wm (I guess I'm going to sway RSN when I do the 21.04 upgrade), using a vertical mouse. So don't mind me...

Thanks for that. Thought I'd try it, and I'll have more to say after the weekend.

Only issue I've had so far I don't think is your problem - it wouldn't let me install it straight up because Firefox said I was running v78 (even though Help->About said I was running v88). But the "download anyway" link worked.

Yes, the Firefox add-on requires version 88 (or higher).

Just uploaded a newer version (1.0.21) fixing a problem with saving/deleting phrases.

If you already installed, your browser should take care of automatic update within 1-2 days or you can force an update by following the procedure described in a previous post.

Was going to reply with results over the weekend for Firefox:

First, I'm very happy with this, and at least a couple of things that will come up this weekend will be much faster for it. But there are issues:

Keyboard navigation/Tab acceptance didn't work. I had to click on the phrase I wanted with the mouse every time. But it was there. (added note: now when I logged in to the lobby to see if the next bit was still wrong, it works. we'll see this weekend!)

For some reason the text on the tabs (history/account...) got really small. Not a big deal, I know what they all are. Also, the "explain" line in that box. But nothing I actually had to read, so that's good.
