That's a reasonable bid- it is making a gambling bid when short of bidding space. Much worse would be pass.

I agree with the previous reply. This is not an appropriate addition to your series. The robot could bid 2NT but perhaps its evaluation indicated that was an overbid. In this situation every call is flawed. Since the 2 bid makes the probability of you holding five diamonds higher, 3 may very well be the least of evils.
