Love all imps. Weak 2d from p, pass from rho. Your go? Lho will bid 4s if poss. If applicable, do you stand it?

I would bid 5d straight up
"definitely that's what I like to play when I'm playing standard - I want to be able to bid diamonds because bidding good suits is important in bridge" - Meckstroth's opinion on weak 2 diamond

Wank's 2 part problem:

over 2(Pass)?? I rank
1. 5 = PRE.
2. 4 = PRE.
3. 2N = REL.
4. Random psych.

After LHO's 4, I rank
1. Pass = NAT. Don't gild the Lily. Hope pre-empts have done their work.
2. 5 = NAT. Undisciplined and might allow opps to reach an unlikely slam.

5 in a flash.

Holding 4 with partner presumably holding 6, you figure to take no more than 1 trick. A adds a second trick. You'll need a couple more tricks to beat any major suit game.

Meanwhile, the opponents are odds on to hold at least one 9+ card major fit. You've got some great complementary distribution no matter what partner holds. So it's time to make them try to decide what to do at the 5 level.

Only alternative to 5 I can imagine is 4N RKCB, planning to look silly if partner actually shows up with two.
The "4 is a transfer to 4" award goes to Jinksy - PhilKing

i found it gob-smacking that this hand couldn't get to 5D. had i accidentally only bid 4 the first time i would be delighted to get another chance over 4S. at both tables this hand (in both cases held by some variety of pro) only bid 4 then defended. 5D is cold. 4S is one off, but fortunately at my table (i was the hand which passed throughout) the defence was worse than the play and it got let in so we still won 10.
