Hearts split 4-1 wirh South holding KJ98. With repeated Diamond leads South gets 3 Trump tricks

Spades plays Ok losing only a club and 2 Hearts
West bid 4 diamonds which East understood to be a Texas transfer to Hearts.

Is there anyway to get to 4 Spades?

presumably 3h and 3s would both be nonforcing?

in that case you need a bid that shows both majors. normally that would be 4d but if it is texas you can play 4c as showing majors.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

Hi,

I would say, that 3M is forcing, this means West should start with 3S, followed by 4H.
This does not really solve the stated problem, if you switch the majors, but at least
West asks East, which major suit he prefers.

Holding 54 in the majors, you most likely need to either supress the 5th or supress the
4 carder, depending on suit quality.

With kind regards

If 4 level bids are, in fact, transfers, then I'm bidding 4 as a transfer to . are so much a better suit that they may play decently even opposite a doubleton. The same can't be said of because of the poor quality of the suit.

Unless you have some special bid to show both majors, then it's a guess of which major to show, so choose the stronger.

No good answer on my convention card. We do play texas here and negative doubles and I would make one.

That may well go float for a small plus or get 3nt with a chance (ducking 2 diamonds with the club Ace right) but getting to 4 would be a longshot.

Spades were 4-1 however it is possible to pull trump and then set up clubs while not losing control of the hands

It's obviously a good hand to discuss with partner. Undiscussed I would expect both 3S and 3H to be natural and forcing, so, as Marlowe above says, 3S and then 3NT if 3S is not raised to 4.

Undiscussed I would expect 4D over 3D to be "Choose a major". After 1NT-(3D) that's what I expect (Texas using applying over interference of 3C or lower) and while I agree this is not the same thing it is sort of like the same thing.

But w/o discussion, who knows? I gather that here W bid 4D thinking as I do, E took it as hearts, and that was that.

Now back to undiscussed. If I think that it should be "choose a major" but I am not sure, than surely I choose 4h since if I am wrong about the intent, we are still ok.

But I will discuss this.
