I don't think you can afford to let North win the K to play a spade. JEC made a subtle mistake by not unblocking a high heart on the first round so the hand is unbeatable if you win the 2nd heart on the lie of the cards.

I don't know what happened at the other table, but ducking the first diamond finesse is pretty basic. Did your other pair not duck?

i would see ducking the 2nd H is alright. it develops potential H winner. Hj was also by purpose. wanted RHO on lead he could not attack D/C.
no reason why i didnt cash the Ha at the table after ducking a H.
on the 4th H if jec let go a D I could easily play on C.
on the 4th H if jec let go a S, guess I would more likely play another D having won the 1st round, and go down.
