I have played my part of match one (as soon as I could). Thanks for the extension hrothgar - if I'm knocked out I look forward to the next one!

Broze and I are stuck at halftime of our match.

I am up 9 IMPs but Broze hasn't been able to start the 2nd half.

Broze had a big 2nd half to win by 11 overall

I was fortunate to gain a couple of the swings there. Thanks for the game

Ok, Phoenix leads me 15-11 after the first 16 (32 total).

Fairly tight bridge all around.

That set was somewhat crazy - I have not gone done in so many game to be honest. I guess I was bidding them a bit too much.

Gordon and I have played two 12-board MP non-BH. He won each of them 54%.

http://webutil.bridg...aeb4-1465888637
http://webutil.bridg...aeb4-1465918664

In the first match there were only 5 swing board, he won 3. In the second match there was just 1. I was expecting something like that in the second match, they were all pretty boring hands.

The swing board in the second match hinged on an opening lead decision, which saved an overtrick.

What do you lead?

I'm glad you posted this Barry - I intended to as I also thought it was interesting.

In all honesty, I would lead J at trick 1. And I think the critical decision point would come much later in the deal....
When the robot leads Q from dummy and North covers, it probably makes sense to drop the 10 on it.

And although gordontd's opening lead worked this time, I think in principle the lead of the 10 from the trump suit is not optimal in theory.

I would lead the jack of spades too, but dropping the 10 would never work. Who plays the ten from T9x there when a certain trick has been set up?

Gordon and I completed our remaining 2 matches now, and I won these two.

58% http://webutil.bridg...aeb4-1466001093 8 pushes, 3 wins for me
62% http://webutil.bridg...aeb4-1466003917 9 pushes, 3 wins for me

So the overall result was

Barmar: 25.5
Gordontd: 22.5

35 of the 48 boards were pushes, and I think most of them were the DD result (but there were a handful where the robot was declaring and it dropped a possible trick).

One of the swings on the last match hinged on what to bid when you have a minimum 2=3=5=3 opener. The auction goes (unopposed) 1 1 1NT 2. Do you pass (Gordon's choice) or take preference back to responder's first suit (mine)? Responder was actually 5=4, so I think my contract was more comfortable (Moysians are not great at low levels). Both contracts are makable double dummy, but Gordon didn't find the line.

Nige1 and I played 4x16 boards with lots of swings all over the place. Having gone down by 21 in the first match, I won the next two by 24 and 17, taking a 20 IMP lead. I needed it, hanging on for a 5 IMP victory.

But only thanks to a reoccurrence of Gib throwing unnecessary high cards - had it not done so on trick 2 of the fifth to last board, the match would amazingly have ended in a tie.

I never saw our results but I'm positive I lost.

GIB support let's just take out all calls from system definitions that show "25+". Thanks.

I'm currently 8 imps down against broze after 16 boards. We agreed to play 64, so I just hope he hasn't forgotten about it. I messaged him this morning asking for when he'd be on, but not had a reply yet.
