PS. Isn't "Ur" an ancient Babylonian city?

Now I can rebid 5clubs, showing Long clubs, Long hearts, short spades but limited HCP. A second choice would be 4nt, pick a game.
If Partner rebids 4H I would assume a much stronger HCP hand. Better than a 3H rebid hand or 2h rebid hand.

This is the sort of bidding that destroys partnerships. You find a simple nf 2H bid and then when the opponents bid to 4S you decide to bid 5C on a Q high suit, when you know the Spades are not breaking.

Further to answer your question, "Yes", I do. You are bidding like a one man band in your auction and are showing scant respect for your partner. As I said this is a good way to end a partnership.

i agree with mike that the 4h bid might mislead partner when it comes to defensive potential (hcp)... so the question is, if my lho bids 5s and partner passes, it that forcing? i have no defense to speak of, maybe 1 trick... yet i don't relish bidding 6h pretty much all by myself, especially since i'm not convinced 5h over 4s is correct

The other point is that with a strong 1444 would you commit the hand to 4H? Does your partner guarantee a 4 card H suit for his Sputnik X? If so what would he do with the following:
xx
xxx
KQxx
KQxx
The jump to 4H is better served as a shapely hand. There are better ways of bidding the strong 1444 hands.

No, I am not bidding over 5s.
1444 I would open 1D so.....

I also open this hand 1H. Solves problems later.
I'm not creating a forcing situation either. There are some weaker 5-6's and 5-7's that I would also jump to 4 on.
I think stronger hands can be better handled with a splinter or Q.

I agree with everything that Ron has said in this thread (except for his comment about Ur, I have no clue). I do guarantee 4 hearts when doubling over 1C-1S. With xx xxx KQxx KQxx I bid 2C, what's the problem?

As for the bidding.. well, I think I shoot at 4H, though with much less conviction than about Ur
