District 4 NAOP - Second qualifying session. Matchpoints.



Trick One: Q, 2, 6, 4
Trick Two: J, K, A, 7
Trick Three: 3, 7, A, 2
Trick Four: 5

I would throw a heart, play 3 rounds of trumps and 3 of clubs and then ruff a club and a diamond back for the last club. Of course the hand would not be posted if this line worked, since it is what every LOL in a club tournament would do.

It is strange that East did not play a third round of hearts.
This would have beaten the contract if West has the Q.

There are only 2 explanations:

East has the Q, or East was not sure who has the third heart.
But in the latter case a heart continuation was definitely indicated if East has a singleton trump even if it is West, who has three hearts.
Accordingly play trumps from the top.

Not if the 10 is single. I'd play for that.
There is a big difference between a good decision and a good result. Let's keep our posts about good decisions rather than "gotcha" results!
