Anybody else play in the Instant Matchpoint game this evening? How'd you do?

My favorite board was #7. I sat East; my partner and I were silent, and the opponents conducted the following auction:

We couldn't touch it. South, who was visibly agitated when the quacky 6 point (aceless) dummy came down, breathed a sigh of relief when the double diamond finesse came home, but she still admonished her partner, "You're supposed to have an ace to bid 5D, you know."

Manged a 68.5% sitting E/W

Found our way to the spade slam on...board 15

4 was kinda fun too... I passed with the giant 1♠ "overcall" over the 1♠ opening, and we quitely set it -300

Also found the 3NT on 32

My CHO punished me mercilessly, but we managed a section top anyway. My favorite was our -2200 for 6S XX down 5.

Partner and I had a 70.5% game sitting N-S. On Board 4, he passed as North (said he was getting vibes to, as he loves opening all 12s and a lot of 11s), and they ended up in 2NT-2. I loved Board 8, making 3♦ X , and then we had the exact auction shown on Board 9, making 920 (I almost rebid 2NT)

Board 4 was one where my CHO punished me. My partner (also North) opened 1♠. After a 1NT oevrcall and heart transfer, I ended up on lead, with the stiff spade my option. Partner won this with the Ace and then shifted to a diamond, ducked by Declarer to my 10. I returned a diamond to partner's Ace, and he contiunued with the diamond Queen (?!?!?!?).

Board 8 was equally disturbing for me. My LHO opened 1♣ (could be short), doubled by partner, and RHO bid 1♦ (artificial, no 5-card major). I opted 1NT. Opener rebid 2♣, and partner bid 2♦ with his 10-count. My RHO bid 3♣, and I shot out 3♦. 4♣ by Opener was passed to me. I then completely misread what was going on (this was the last hahnd for us, and I was already shell shocked), so after a LONG tank I blasted out 5♦!!! Somehow, partner managed only -1. I had left, but I imagine that he was able to strip out the hand, get a duck from West in spades, guessed the King, and then caught West in a ruff-sluff?

Nothing to be proud for me (63.5% sitting EW)
Board 4, I passed as East after North open 1 spades, and passed again after 1NT from South. 300 for us.
My favorite board 15 - 6NT.
6h in board 26 was good too.
Unfortunatly my declarer play in one more slam (board 19) was not up to task.

By the way I really like Cohen's sence of humor in the bucklet commentaries.

Sounds like some Forum denizens had some big games. Alas, we didn't; 57% was the best we could manage. More highlights:

Board 1: Our novice South opponent miscounted his HCP (so he said) and opened 1D with his balanced 20 count, landing NS in a superior diamond partscore, rather than 2NT or 3NT going down.

Board 4: This seemed to be a contentious board, but our timid NS opponents were never in the auction! I opened 1NT in 3rd seat, and played in 2H after a transfer.

Board 10: My Waterloo. Partner took a rosy view with the West hand, and gave me a limit raise in spades; this propelled us all the way to 6S. It doesn't look so good single dummy, but I was helped by the lead of a low heart; I put in the ten, and my RHO put up the king on auto pilot. Now things were looking better; I played three rounds of diamonds ruffing on the board, and noting the fall of the queen, thought I could avoid a NS diamond ruff and take a sort of safety play in the trump suit, as there were no outside losers. I played a spade to the ace, and had found the only way to play the trump suit for TWO losers.

Board 18: I found the lead of the spade deuce against 3NT; three rounds cleared the suit. Declarer took the club hook, partner took the fourth spade, and led a diamond. A good score! Woo hoo!

Board 23: I bid 5C after the auction started (1S)-pass-(4C), and played it there doubled. Another good one! On a roll!

Board 26: I fell into the "trap" of opening the East hand 1D (and I'd do it again), and we got all the way to 6H. Makes double dummy but partner tried to ruff out the spade king rather than take the finesse.

I'm hoping you mean OCTOBER 6th, Ethel? Why would it take a month to post results?

NO, I mean November 6th!! Shortly after that date - final results will be posted on the ACBL site. Clubs do NOT have to submit October results to the ACBL until November 6th after ALL the club games have been played for the month.

Just a friendly suggestion, if anyone in the ACBL is reading this... perhaps it would be good to ask clubs that have the priveledge of running the continent-wide Instant Matchpoint game to submit the results within 24 hours. This game has the potential to generate good publicity for the ACBL and bridge in general. However, having an "instant" matchpoint game that does not yield results for over a month makes the ACBL look a little silly in the eyes of the media. How do you think newspaper, TV, blog editors would view this long a delay(vs. any other contest in any "sport") where they have to wait a month to be able to publish results?

because some clubs still do things the manual way, despite now having to pay a penalty every month for non-electronic submission. They, obviously, can't get things in in 24 hours.
