Matchpoints, no vul. Your partner deals.

X*-(2)-2-(p)
(p)-(3)-?

* - at least 4-4 in the unbid suits with some defensive strength.

Double. Cooperative; ptr can pull if weaker than expected amd/or has a 5th H. 4-3-3-3 hands like to defend. It's a bit risky, of course, but it's matchpoints and I like my chances of defeating it.

Since partner is a passed hand, we don't hold half or more of the deck. My holding will play well on defense, but is NOT an asset when partner chooses to pull an play at the 3-level. I pass.

Partner is a passed hand. You have already forced them to the three level. You have definitely done enough.

A good rule in these cases is when we are over the bidder that double is penalty, not takeout, or cooperative. On this auction there's a reasonable chance we can have a trump stack when LHO and partner are short. KQx isn't a 'stack' unless its against a slam.

I'd pass but I'm a chicken in these kinds of situations.

I like a partner to bump (em up) and run.

Hanging your pard for this good passed hand effort would discourage that in the future even if it works this time.

Okay, thanks. The correct move was indeed cowardice, I instead doubled for blood, expecting them to be in a misfit with half the deck. They comfortably made 4 in their ten card fit as I was held to exactly the three tricks I was looking at to begin with. Declarer was 1=2=7=3 with aces over all my partner's kings :(
