Do you agree with Opening 4S?
Remark: You also play Namyats. 4♦ would have been AKQ 8th and maybe something next to it.
Do you have enough to bid 6H to show your void and 1 Key card?

Not gonna show the void in this case. Maybe partner is trying to count winners instead of losers, or maybe I am wrong :rolleyes: .

p knows you dont have a side ace but there is still
a decent amount of latitude for your 4s bid anywhere
from AKxxxxxx xx xx x to QJxxxxxxx x xx x

4n by partner may merely be trying to find out if slam
is a good idea. Your having a heart void is nice but
probably not important to making slam (unless p has
long hearts and your void makes it unlikely slam will
work:))

Just cooperate with blackwood and let p decide where to
play dont try and be a hero here. Think this way--since you
have 8 spades it would hardly be a huge surprise if you
had a void.

Some partners might know this, and under some agreements there is latitude such as your second example. Other partners might expect a hand which more clearly has 7 to 7 1/2 tricks...Like 6 trump tricks in a seven-bagger and a bullet outside, or 8 trumps missing one card, or just seven solid. And yes, 4NT asks for clarification in that style.

Looks like a textbook vulnerable preempt - rule of 3 style.

Not sure 6♥ shows the trump Q. Which asset do you think partner wants to know about? Bidding 5♣ first doesn't necessarily shut out the ♥ control... A Trump Q ask will elicit 5♥... so we can tell partner about both...If partner fishes for the grand by bidding 5N or 6 of a minor, 6♥ will be very clear...

I might have KJ109xxxx, -, QJx, xx and still open 4♠.

IMO, pass was correct. It was not likely ---with the lead coming thru North ---that the hand can produce five tricks to go with the seven promised if South is of that persuation. And If South is a Random 4S bidder it is just a crapshoot. In any case 4NT as Wood is unlikely to be a useful agreement after an opening 4S.

Here's an idea...

4♠ - 4NT
========
5♣ = side void (5♦ asks which void, 5♥ asks for key cards starting with 0)
5♦ = no void, 1 key card (5♥ asks about ♠Q)
5♥ = no void, 0 key cards (will have ♠Q)
5♠ = no void, 2 key cards without ♠Q
5NT = 2 key cards with ♠Q (if slam is not good over this you probably should not have asked)

I play a similar kind of scheme in some situations but never considered it over a 4♠ preempt before. Not sure if it is a good idea or not though - things are a little cramped.

If only partner had the H10 :(

I don't think 4NT is right with that N hand. You've got 3 winners, maybe two more but North clearly didn't cater to the possibility of a heart void opposite which makes slam very unlikely.

I wonder what 5S would be here? Can hardly be asking for good trumps, since we already promised those when we opened 4S!
