I think you've created a headache for yourself with 3. You play Lebensohl, right? If so, this looks like a maximum 3 call. Its an aceless 11 with a suspect Q.

In my book, I've promised another call with 3, so I will follow through with 4.

I think it's an obvious 3 the first time. Abstain now.

I like a heavy 3 as well. It's matchpoints, go plus. I'm curious how people play 2N-3N vs 3N here.

On this auction I would pass and hope for the best, apology ready.

lebensohl undiscussed. with lebensohl I'd bid 3C, but not clear we're playing that.

Yeh, it was. But since I sat in for the 3D bidder who fell ill in the middle of the auction, I might try 3NT and hope it shows this type of diamond holding with clubs to run to, since the auction is already foul anyway. ( Or, maybe it is what the seqence means without Leben)

This is a great advertisment for Lebensohl convention :) . But since the situation is this then yes i agree with 3 if that asks wheter or not prd has stopper for no trumps.
When prd bids 3 you r between rock and a hard place, but i would not pass. Prd has not limited himself 3 IMO does not say anything about his strength nor did it deny 5 th card in .
4 is my choice.

By bidding 3 partner probably expects us to have a rebid now. 4 comes first to mind, 4 comes in second.

I kinda don't get this. This is like asking us to open a jar with hands tied behind our backs.

I don't know what we're playing, we have no system agreements; can't assume lebensohl. No information about the general approach or about partner's experience... what do you bid?

There should be a forum specially dedicated to "guess the best misbid!" I really fail to see how this fits in the A+E.

But if we don't play Lebensohl, isn't this a 2NT bid?
Meanwhile, I downvoted the original post as I don't think a problem arising from failure to discuss Lebensohl is a problem worth posting. (Just my opinion of course. And if you really want to post it, maybe another forum is more appropriate.)

Even if you're not playing lebensohl, what's wrong with bidding 3?

I think the majority has missed the fact that we are a passed hand.
the 3d bid merely informs p we are near the top of our passed hand and
does not promise another call. There is just too much potential with this
hand to bid a mere 3c which could more easily be xxx xx xxx xxxxx.

p knows we are a passed hand and we either have both majors or are
near max for passed hand with no dia stop (too easy to bid 2n or 3n)
and if we have one 4 card major too easy for us to bid it at 3 level.

P knows we are a passed hand when they x and would have taken a 3d bid
by us into account for rebid purposes. If p has extra values they would
have to bid 3n or 4c or 4d (pick major) with a minimum p 3s might be a 5
card suit but more easily could be 4 spades and 3 hearts. In either case
since p chose 3s we should pass since we have only 2 dia maybe a moysian
fit is feasible. 3s from p severly limits their hand since ours is already
limited by our initial pass.

Note how this works well in case p bid 3h (with 44 in majors)
over our 3d bid. We could not pass but we can bid 3s and p would know it
was only 3 card suit using the same thinking as above.
