I've just started reading Speed Reading for Dummies. I'm going slow with it though...
Have you read about it? Do you use that sort of technique or do you vocalize when you read? Would it be possible/profitable to read bridge books using speed reading?

I am a fair bit faster than average reader, but I don't speed read. I don't think speed reading would work for most bridge books, as to get the most out of many bridge books you want to stop and think about problems as if you were encountering them at the table. So even if you can go through the text of a page in 10 seconds or less, if there is a hand problem you still want to think about it.

Speed reading of bridge books works about as well as speed playing of hands - fine if your first name is Alan and your last name is Sontag, but that is a finite set.

I think you are missing the point.

Well, the book does explain that you need to pay close attention at certain kinds of texts. What really surprised me was the vocalizing thing. Who reads without hearing the words being read in his/her mind? Well, it could be worse, I've seen people moving their mouths as they read.

I don't get it - I'm a fast reader, there wouldn't be time to hear all the words in my head. But what I associate with speed reading is much faster I guess.
