Weak club game (duh). Before bidding 4NT North sighed roughly 904328049283 times.

West's X of 6NT did not ask for a spade lead (it had no agreement). A spade lead did, however, deliver -1680 to E/W

ATB please.
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

There's a certain amount of bad luck involved, but such blame as there is goes all to West. Even with no explicit agreement, doubles of voluntarily bid slams ask for unusual leads, of which a spade surely is an example. While there's no guarantee East will always lead a red suit without a double, and it's a little unusual for NS to be able to collect 12 tricks in the black suits once they are in, West has to know that he's greatly increasing the chance of a spade lead by doubling.

100% to East.

The above was my first thought. On reflection, both 50%. West should not double for the reasons outlined by Sigmund above. +50 would still be a top. Mind you East now only has 2 out of 3 chances to get it right and an argument can be made for a club lead.

If you're going to X slam for penalties, there's something to be said about 5 X. 80%+ to West.

I voted lol, but I believe that West is to blame. Given that W has two aces, they are already getting an extremely good board as long as they beat 6N. I don't care what level club game it is, most people know how to sign off when missing two aces. Anyway, there is NO reason for West to double here, especially since it's just for the extra 100. Without the double, a red suit lead looks fairly normal (or at least very likely). With the double, partner rates to be leading a spade... There really is not any reason to double here.

Doubling 5 is also not out of the question, just in case.

East listened to his partner, who should have something like KJxxx xx xxx Axx perhaps.

I'd definitely double 5. From West's point of view, he expects the opponents to play 5. North will presumably have the king or shortage in each red suit, and probably solidish clubs. A diamond lead will be at least as good as a heart, and much better than a club.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

West will be on lead against 5.
