I'll spend about two weeks in London (Croydon). I'd like to go play some bridge one afternoon or night. Can anyone suggest a nice club in the neighborhood (or somewhere I can find easily with metro or something)? I'm not sure which day/days I'll have free. Where can I find the schedule of the club? Thanks.

I will be in London myself at the end of July and intend to spend a few hours at TGRs. But cricket has higher priority, of course, as some of you may know.

Last time in London, a couple of years ago, I could not find the Acol Club, it had moved off Acol Street.

hm
will the tube take me home after the club night (Young Chelsea)?
will the tube take me home after the club night (Young Chelsea)?
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I should guess so. The club nights begin at 7 and the last tube around midnight generally. Otherwise there are night buses.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

Young Chelsea appears to be near the Earls Court tube station. From there it is easy to get to London Victoria mainline train station (only a few stops on the tube). There are frequent services from Victoria to East Croydon.

Unfortunately Croydon is not the same as London, and is not on the tube (metro/underground) but has an overland train service.
It depends a bit where you are staying in Croydon how easy it is to get back from an evening at (e.g.) the Young Chelsea. If you are near to the main station - East Croydon - then you have to get a tube from Earl's Court (5 mins from the YC) to Victoria (would take about 10 mins), and then get a train from Victoria to East Croyden - they are quite frequent and take about 15-20 mins depending on how often they stop. You can do this until quite late at night, but it's obviously rather a hassle.

in the London are, this website is very good:

There are a couple of clubs in the Croydon area - look at http://www.surreycou...urreyClubs.shtm and look for clubs with a CR postcode - as I don't know exactly where you are I don't know which is closest. They are all fairly small local clubs - the site tells you when they play - and you might struggle to find a sympathetic partner. The YC or other big London clubs would be better as long as you don't mind the journey home.
