It appears I was very incorrect about the meaning of my double.
Since I doubled in tempo at the table, wonder how I got that idea..it seemed clear at the time, smile

I don't think double is penalty here. It shows extras for sure, and it's more takeout-oriented. Still, you need a lot less to defeat 4♥ on this hand than you need to make 5♣; give partner something like ♠AKxxx ♥xx ♦Axx ♣Axx (seems pretty minimum) and you probably beat 4♥ and certainly do not make 5♣. I'd think passing is percentage. It's possible that opponents have enough freak distribution that they can make 4♥ (and that 5♣ is a good sacrifice against 4♥X) but if you choose to sacrifice here opponents can push you around pretty easily (and often will, when they don't have quite so much distribution).

I definitely meant it as penalty.
My purpose was to ask partner to look at their hand and make an unusual lead.
It seemed an unusual lead was our best hope to beat 4H.
Clearly that seems to not be the message that was sent, unfortunately
As it was partner thought long and long, bid 4S, that was doubled and he thought again. And finally passed.
A bit of poor defense held it to minus 300
And a decent score..
My purpose was to ask partner to look at their hand and make an unusual lead.
It seemed an unusual lead was our best hope to beat 4H.
Clearly that seems to not be the message that was sent, unfortunately

Lightener doubles are usually against slams. There are many reasons to X game other than it will go down if you find the lead.

so you are saying this is one reason, lightener double...
I dont see how this can be demanding a spade or trump lead...given I am in front of declarer and they jumped.
I did not make a two suited bid...over 2H
I did not make a power double over 2H
anyway that was my thought process....
I was desperate to avoid a spade lead...despite my AK
