We have just won the last set of the Spingold, but we could have done better. ATB

Finals of the Spingold

Looking at South hand first thought is slam, better start with 2D.
North rebids 2H
Rats
I will settle for 4..

Hope the opponents don't bid and make 6

How many aces do you think North has?

Easily enough controls to fit in an overcall...

Do you see what players in the Spingold open on when NV? Do you see how light their negative doubles can be?

While DD may not make 4 I would expect to be playing at a level higher than 2. What strength does 2 show; an opening hand? What would 2/2N show? The 2 response is pessimistic given 10 total points with a point upgrade once the fit is found. Where is the invite which I would accept as South? Now East leads opener's suit and 4 is on the cards.

How many open 1 with the stiff?
I can see the auction starting P-P-1-2N.

I'm South, with my weak club game mentality. Thinking that I'm in a competitive auction, and I know that partner can overcall on barely 6.
I do see now that I should have made a second attempt.

Happy New Year everyone :D
