W leads J♣, declarer wins. ♠ to K, E wins with A. ♣ return, declarer wins. Declarer draws last trump, W discards ♣. So this is where we're at:

Kelsey's recommended play is 5♦ from declarer, then finesse 9♦ if W plays low. I'm struggling to get my head around this, I understand that E can't have both A♦ and K♥ or they'd have opened the bidding because we've already seen A♠ and implied Q♣, but I still can't get from that that declarer should risk E having the 10♦.Sometimes I think Kelsey picks weird plays just for the sake of it.

1. Assume HK offside, because if it's onside you can hardly go down.

2. Assume DA on your left, because if DA was on your right all along, the HK should be onside.

3. So now with DA on left, HK on right, the idea is to find an extra diamond trick, so that you can make even if HK is offside.

What are the plausible options?
- D to K. This won't work because LHO will win DA and return heart.

- D to J. Well, if LHO had DAQ, wouldn't they just win DQ, shift to heart, and there is nothing you can do about it?

- D to 9. Now if LHO has DAT(x+), this forces RHO to win DQ, and they can't attack hearts, now you can play 2nd diamond and set up the pitch.

Now if East has the T, you just have to hope HK is onside.
