A heart, two diamonds and... ?

This board cost customer paying for advanced (?) robot the tournament.
Probably there is some better option in GiB system than 3♥, but it wasn't apparent and we fell on our feet all the same.
But what goes on at trick 3?

Well played by GIB East. A lesser robot would have gone down 2 or 3 tricks.

With 3♦ to GIB promising 5+♣, 4+♦, and 15-18 total points, and North showing 4+♦ and 8+ total points, it's going to require some pretty wild distribution to make up those hands.. South is generally guaranteed something like the ace of diamonds and 6 clubs (to give North points for a void), no matter how insane that makes the line of play. Also, it doesn't have negative inferences from the description, like ruling out spade length from North. So it probably doesn't matter what it does.
Though it should still be able to figure out to ruff from other more variable hands it deals, so no idea really.

If it probably doesn't matter what it does, then doing the only thing that could possibly avoid going down would seem a good start.
Are we even sure at this point that it was dealing other hands?

If it doesn't matter what it does, it has no idea that one option is the only thing that could possibly avoid going down.
But no, we have no clue what the current version of GIB is doing. An older one does though and ruffs..

My question is more which current version of GIB this was, given BBO's reluctance to state unequivocally that an advanced robot is assigned when paying for a robot in a free tournament.

Advanced or basic shouldn't make any difference in this situation. Both deal hands in the same way.

A difference, but in this situation if 100% of a smaller sample of dealt hands have South holding AKQx of diamonds and 6 clubs, it'll almost certainly be true of a larger sample too; the flaw would be it not being allowed to include other types of hands in any sample.
But again, I have no idea if that's what's happening here, since the old version does deal others, whether it's a small sample or not.

I think that BBO still using extremely faulty antique program borders on a scandal. My assessment is that in around 30% of hands bot does something preposterous, mostly in the bidding and defense. Just today bot holds AKxxxxx, -, x, AKxxx and lets play in 4H after bidding 1H-2H-P-2S,3H-3S-4H... It's still fun to play in bot tourneys, but it's a different type of bridge. Partnering a bot against humans may certainly frustrate.
