I agree but my bet is that the big tank on the 3rd hand was north looking at 6 hearts.

The other logical reason for a tank is 'extra values', but we have virtually zero hope in that case, hence I'd guess that he has 6=4 reds.

However, the alternative, being (for me) the spade A is incredibly committal...though this may well be a hand where we do need to take a big position at trick 1. I did upvote your post, so am not saying I'd lead the Ace.

Well it looks like some or all of a 6th heart and/or a 5th (or 6th)diamond

#1 eagles123 'MP.'
###############
I rank
1. 4. Perhaps dummy has only s.
2. J.
3. 9.
4. 3.
5. 6
#2 eagles123 'MP'
###############
I rank
1. T. Passive because dummy seems to have few values.
2. 4. Might result in a simpler defence.
3. 2.
4. 4.
#3 eagles123' MP. big tank before final pass by North'
###############
I rank
1. 3. Dummy's hesitation implies good s. A lead might remove an entry.
2. T. Perhaps cards lie badly for declarer and a passive defence is best,
3. A. Candidate for Brilliancy Prize.
4. 4.

1) J of hearts.
2) 10 of spades.
3) 5 of diamonds (a double from partner would suggest a heart lead for us).

I agree with Nigel on the third hand, we need to cut down on entries to dummy. Partner has a heart stop, because if partner doesn't have a heart stop this hand is over. So, partner has a heart stop. Let's not burn it at trick 1. A heart lead is just never right here.

EDIT: It could be right, but never correct. That's probably a better way to phrase this.

These were my choices too. Admittedly I haven't looked at possible layouts of the hearts on the first one to see whether the J or the small is better.

Board 1 - I lead a low heart: Spade would be 8 tricks, Heart 11: Opps had a mixup about stayman but hey I don't think it influenced my lead

Board 2 - I lead a diamond which I think in hindsight was just a mistake. My feeling at the time was i should just lead my strongest suit, but I missed the inference that there was no stayman so partner was likely to have a decent major. I have no idea why 2N wasn't raised to 3N btw, but it's not relevant.

Board 3 - I lead the Spade Ace, which I think again was short sighted. It's an interesting hand and I'm not sure how it would have been played had I led something different, but clearly my lead wasn't optimal.

For interest the hands are from here: https://www.bridgewe...b=queenofhearts - and no this isn't to show our great results, we had a crap session lol

Board 2, 7 and 9 for the three boards.

Thanks,

Eagles

Hi,

given this is MP, you want to go safe.

#1 Heart, I guess this means the Jack
#2 Major, I guess this means spade
#3 Hearts
With kind regards
Uwe Gebhardt (P_Marlowe)
