In the box "Tournament Results" which appears e.g. at the end of an instant tournament, under "Rank" there are three columns, A, B and C. The meaning of A is obvious but what are B and C ?

All players play the same tournament, but they are grouped in playing strength (most likely BBO Points), and the numbers indicate your place in the group.
If you are a C player and win (1st overall place) you will win in A / B and C, to win in C 5th / 6th place may be enough.
But if you are a A player you need to make 1st overall place to win.

It is a common way in North America to run tournaments.
