ELC equal level conversion has some of its best results after a 3 level preempt.
There is little room to explore so x followed by ELC when needed grants a great
deal of badly needed efficiency to many otherwise impossible auctions. As suggested
above x followed by clubs to diamonds if needed gets the idea of a 2 suited hand across.

There is indeed some risk here the dia suit does not have great quality in case ELC
is needed but the risk of getting passed out or having to chime in higher next round
seems even worse.

Do you have an agreement whether 4 immediately is diamonds, or diamonds and spades NLM ?

I think I would double in either case, but I think it has some ramifications as to what X then taking 4 out to 4 is.

I rank
  • Double = T/O. Especially if you play same-level correction.
  • 4 = NAT. Or Michaels :)
  • Pass = FIX. IMO that also a reasonable call.
