The hand is prepared to be won by starting with diamonds Timo, just that you need to stiff K on the 4th spade to keep all your chances open. The hand ends up with a squeeze, but that is only because I wanted that declarer went down if he discarded from any of the red suits giving up a 3-3 break option. In real life only one suit split 4-2, while the other was 3-3. Pitching from the wrong one will see you down.

But there is no need for that, after 4 rounds of spades and 1 in diamonds we know that we need Q onside to stand a chance. Opps will play a club, we win K, and test diamonds, are they 3-3?, fine we just need Q onside now, pitch 4th heart on the club ace. Are they 4-2 or wrose?, then we need 3-3, so pitch the diamond on the A and finese hearts.

This at least is the line I had in mind, as the cards are you end up squeezing East, but acutally what you are aiming for a is a 3-3 heart break in the end.

You still need finesse even when 3-3 diamonds. I came to same ending, took finesse (we are both going down if finesse is off, 3 spades+1 he + 1 dia) and i played K from hand, discarded 2 clubs from hand on 3rd and 4th spade, took the club lead in hand with stiff K, tested diamonds, went to dummy with A, cashed A hoping for 3-3 hearts or red suits with RHO so that he can be squeezed.

And how would you continue, say you are allowed to hold the trick when you played diamond to the K ?

But i like your line for 2 reasons

1- You have better chances when RHO has stiff A
2-You have better chances when LHO has stiff Q

Nice hand btw.

Fluffy, not sure if it's a bug or a feature, but I started out similar to your line: win third round of spades pitching a club from hand, diamond to K, pitch another club from hand on fourth spade, win K in hand, cash a high and to A in dummy. Now I played the A and E pitched a diamond which made my life easy (pitch , finesse, claim). Was this a legitimate squeeze or a misdefense? If E pitches Q it leaves me guessing what to do next, I think.

[edit]
Corrected the play

Your line is nowhere close to what Gonzalo suggested.

When you cashed the club A and E pitched a did not make your life easy. You just got lucky. You should have cashed diamonds before you go to A.

Now you had to discard before knowing diamond split (E could have originally dealt xx ) and heart split.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I played another top before A. But yeah, what I do is play these hands out which means I test inferior lines you guys would miss.

Yeah thank you for testing.

I am not fully sure what your line was, however if you had kep all your diamonds and hearts and have forced RHO to pitch on A he is legitimately squeezed, there might be some discards better than others, but sorting all this stuff is complex the way the program works.

I didn't expect all this trouble regarding Ax or A onside, I just wanted declarer to start with diamonds, on the real hand declarer had AKJx and started with the losing diamond finesse, but since that is far from obvious I switched to KQJ. Perhaps best was AQJ?

BTW I think this is a suicide squeeze position, if West rejects cashing spades and plays on clubs we would go down I think, maybe if we had anothe entry to dummy we could play a spade ourselves... too complicated :)

My exact line (replayed it now):
Duck two spades, pitch a club on the third.
Diamond to K and A, spade comes back, pitch another club (E pitches 9).
J won in hand. Cash another high . to A, A. Now E pitches a diamond that I feel is a mistake. Looking at the hands, though, I see it was a legitimate squeeze. So, not a bug, just not the most difficult discard to read.

You can still make if W rejects to cash 4th spade when you start with a finesse instead of diamonds. Take 3rd spade (assuming he continued but does not matter) take finesse, play K....Now say he did not cash 4th spade and played a club, win in hand, test diamonds, go to A and play 4th spade discarding your last club in hand, W has nothing but clubs left and that is your entry for club A and your trick to squeeze E.

It can be defeated if E shifted to clubs at T2.
