What is left except playing partner for the diamond king?
Declarer is marked with 11-13 HP balanced and from dummy's club discard with the heart queen.
You simply must hope that declarer has AJT4, QJxx QJT xx

I have a minor quibble with the defense and a big one with the bidding.
Not cashing the spade queen will take it 2 down if partner has the diamond king, but would be a disaster if partner has six spades and no diamond king.
However, partner would not have introduced a 4 card diamond suit headed by the queen with six spades to the king.
Since 4 makes if partner has the diamond king, two down is important. An overtrick in 3NT doubled is not.

I would have super accepted, despite the low high card point. This hand got huge after the transfer and even if partner is broke 3 is more likely to create problems for them than for us.
As the bidding continued doubling 3NT is a big error in judgment. 4 stands out.

All of my bids seem to be artificial, can you explain them?

I don't understand why I would cash Q to kill my 7. Playing a diamond now its obvious, partner played 2.

I stopped reading when I overcalled 1N with 4522 and a 14.

OK reading further, I would expect one of the following:

- That we play some sort of Smith (I see we don't).
- Since we don't play Smith, count in clubs is irrelevant, and suit preference applies.

I probably would have stopped the problem when I won the A. Partner's club carding suggests something in diamonds, and definitely not the J, but its not clear to me that we need to start banging down our winners, since declarer only has 7 tricks in.

Even better, its a more interesting problem if I win the A immediately and fire back a club. I'm not suggesting this is correct, but it might be. Declarer's hand looks like its going to be obliterated on the run of the clubs.

I wondered about that possibility, but obviously dismissed it when partner played the 2.

Thank you partner!

That lets it through when partner has KT9xx in spades.

Yeah, true. And declarer doesn't need to pummel his hand with the heart re-entry.
