This is the type of situation where I like to use 2NT as an asking bid to help me decide what to do. Sure -- it is less preemptive. However, as I do not know myself what to do if the opponents end up in 4, I think 3 gives me the last blind guess too often, making the preempt perhaps more problematic than beneficial. If I bid 2NT, also, partner will often be encouraged to assist if he has an unexpectedly strong playing hand, like AQxxxx x xx Q10xx.

And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

3, then compete to 3 or give up if the opponents bid higher than that before I get another chance. Of course, if partner happens to raise clubs, I'll compete to 4.

I must be wimp. We have 9 spades, about 20 points total, and a 4333 dummy. I pass.

3 then pass 4. Possibly I just lack imagination. I might bid 3 if I thought a club lead would be necessary but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Agree with 3 call. I certainly want a club lead against any contract that they choose to play.

Anything but 3 then pass after that is totally weird to me. I don't even know what my second choice is. I guess second choice is just passing originally and maybe we even buy it here.

I did the same. It seems we are beating 4 often enough to make up for the 300's. I think partner held QT9xxx x KTxx QT.

Dummy held A xxx AQxxx xxxx and declarer had Jxx AKQxxx void xxxx. I don't remember the auction at the other table but they did find the save. Lose 8.

I might pass 2

I don't know others but i usually make better decisions when my opponents preempt and raise than they preempt and other one is silent.

By passing 2 i have one opponent left to pass to buy it, while bidding 3 will give another life to RHO with our known fit even if it passes LHO.

I have to admit i probably would bid 3 anyway though, with Kxx i am not worried about spade lead either . Definetely not bidding 4/4.

3 would not have occured to me tbh.

I feel that 4S right of the bat is the best play. Then I double 5H of course, to show who the boss is.
Srsly, it will make line one time out of 5 anyway and all the juicy spazzes we induce will be a nice bonus.
