From my perspective, the number of posts in Chinese (???) seems to have increased dramatically in recent weeks.

Not sure whether this indicates

(1) An increase in the popularity of bridge overseas
(2) An increase in internet connectivity in China
(3) An uptick in BBO accounts in China
(4) A delusional belief on the part of yours truly

How about the creation of a Chinese language international forum seemingly around mid-may?

It is clearly not your imagination. It's also been mentioned in an "I'd like to be able to block certain fora/topics from View New Content" thread.

I saw it and thought that a talkative Chinese guy had just noticed the existence of the forum.

The Chinese Forum was created on May 17th. There was no Chinese forum before that, but as soon as it was created the Chinese speaking BBOers started posting there. Moderators for the Chinese Forum are Lycier and Aihua.

It was something obviously needed, because of the apparent popularity. I haven't looked to see whether Lurp is upvoting there.

I, for one, welcome our new Chinese character set overlords.
