the 2nd one works when rho has 3 trumps not including the jack and 1 diamond, but fails when anyone has a doubleton trump and a singleton diamond.
L1 much better imo.

When u come to hand with ♥Q, LHO discards, if u play ♦ towards dummy LHO drops Q (2-2)
