I found myself with a goodish pick up partner who played precision.

However, he did not play trump asking bids.

I asked him what the sequence, 1C 1S 2S, would mean?

He said opener's 2S would be "forward moving".

However, that does not seem right.

1C 1S 3S and 1C 1S 4S have appropriate meanings when 2S is used a trump asking bid. 3S is invitational and 4S is a sign off in game.

What does 2S mean in the sequence given if it is not to be a trump asking bid?

I am thinking it could be: 3-card support and 16hcp only.

Has anyone come up with any other uses?

Much obliged for any appropriate responses.

3 and 4 should not exist.

In particular, 3 can't be invitational!! You're in a game force!

2 just shows a fit and leaves room for bidding.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Show your short or deny a short. Rebid Spades is no short
Next for side fragments(AKx,KQx,AQx)/no. Cheaper [NT,Spades] is no frag.

You are right. 3 in this sequence would show good support and 19-21 pts (hcp+distribution).

4 is 16hcp+ and 3 card support.

4S shouldn't exist. It's ridiculous, responder is unlimited, you've created a GF at the 1 level, then you throw away your advantage, preempt your own side taking away all cue-bidding room, gaining nothing?

Using 3S as some min opener, 16-19- 4 cd support is OK I suppose, at least there is still some room left to cue & clarify.

2S can be stronger hands with 4+ support, same as you would trump-asking bid with, just partner will presumably bid side suit or cue bid instead of answering in trump quality steps.

With 3 cd support, usually bid something natural first. (side suit then support, or NT then support later). You are in a GF, there's no need to support spades right away. It's important to clarify 5-4 vs. 5-3 fits. Showing your side suits also helps responder evaluate their hand for slam purposes. Also, you might belong in 3nt or slam in a different strain, which are hard/impossible to get to if you raise spades.

opener should not, in general, 'show' anything. usually responder is the one who is describing his hand. it's very important to understand this. but this has been explained to you before and you don't seem to be interested.

2 should just show fit imo. 3 may be used as a balanced 4 card raise (and jumps as splinters).
