There isn't much more to be said. North is closer to a slam try than a competitive call. 100% North.

Query: How did you make 12 tricks? Did an opponent switch to a trump?

Guess this is what happens when you bid 2N on complete yarbs like xxx --- Jxxxx AKxxx (from another thread). 2N red/white shows a good hand, 4D is absurd.

My partner chose to bid 3N but we were playing the platinum pairs (MP) rather than the imp pairs.

Notice that even if we gave south a second spade instead of the sixth diamond (which is a lousy hand, not even really worth a red v. white 2NT bid) you still have very good play for a game contract. North takes the blame here.
