Scoring: IMP

1-1-????

IMPs early in a 9 board Swiss match against decent opponents. Playing ordinary 2/1. For those wishing to pen a reply, please state your planned actions for the more likely subsequent sequences.

e.g.
Pass(by you)-Pass-Double(by pard)-Pass
???

or

Double(by you)-2-3-Pass
????

I pass over 1.

If the auction proceeds P-(P)-x-(P) I bid my long suit - 2.

Partner is going to have to drag me kicking and screaming to game if that is his objective. I do not have a good hand on this auction.

Pass.

Under your first scenario (partner reopens with a double) I'd bid 2.

Under your second scenario (I double, then pard competes to 3) I'd obviously pass.

These responses should be unanimous or nearly so.

Scenario #1 is easy - 2

The call for scenario #2 is also an easy pass. The complication comes with the required diplomacy. I lay down dummy with the 4 at the bottom of the suit, quickly fix that with an astonished look, and announce the "I clearly need a cup of coffee, can I get you anything - my treat".
You must know the rules well - so that you may break them wisely!

1NT for me, but I agree that
pass is probably best.

It is between Pass and 1NT.
If I pass and partner reopens,
than 2D ia also clear 2D.

3 diamonds after the double has a lot of appeal for me too, although I would consider this a minimum.

Pass and 3 over double. With the queen of diamonds more I would have bid 2 right away (see other thread).
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
