On the first hand I'd bid 4C. I think this is better than 4NT for two reasons.

On the second hand I'd bid 3NT.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

The first problem is a huge headache. Partner is a passed hand and we are at unfavorable vul. And opposite as little as AK of diamonds we are probably spread for 5 of a minor. But if you commit your side to the 5 level, you could easily go for a number.

Nevertheless, I am bidding 4 and continuing with 4NT over 4 if partner does not call.

The second problem is easier. I bid 3. 3 cannot be natural (I would have bid 2, not 3, on the second round of bidding). If we are going to play in 3NT, it should be played from partner's side. And if partner has nothing in hearts, he may be able to call 3 over which I can still bid 3NT. He should know that I do not have more than one heart stop on this auction, and I hope he can figure out what to do.

I would have rebid 2N on the 2nd, but 3 is hardly egregious. Now I bid 3N. Haven't I described a hand with diamonds, clubs and a heart stop?

4 on the 1st and 4N over the impending 4. A direct 4N will have pard choosing 5 too often.

1st 4 and pass over 4. It's hard because we make a lot if partner's hand is perfect (AKxx of diamonds and out) but diddly if it's not (pretty much anything with xxx of diamonds and no aces.) I'm fairly confident it's with the odds to sell out after already bidding 4 but that's just my opinion.

Second I don't really care, 3 or 3NT. I would bid 3NT, 3 to me seems more like majors the other way (though you can bid 3 on hands like that if you choose.)
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I'd try 5 on the first, on the second 3NT, but 3 is also appealing.

Fluffy, what happened to your "destroyer of worlds"-avatar? This one is good but not as good.

1. I don´t know. There is no way that pd can judge his hand correct. So we must decide where we belong.
As others stated before: Any 4 Club bid will get us a 4 Spade bid from our LHO quite often. Do we want this?
SO maybe a quiet pass is the best idea?
Well but I have 6/5, I cannot pass, so 4 Club and 4 NT later. Take a big risk, gain a big penalty...or a big reward.

And I try 3 at the second problem too.
Kind Regards

Roland

That lovelly avatar was pointed to me by Mr Frederick Staelens, he doesn't suspect how thankful I am for that, because he told me the link just by the time I was playing an online space conquering game! (on wich I am actually feared, won all the games I played but one) www.spacegame.es, and it was so appropiate.

But then the host of the site switched the incon to a stupid smily moving its arms (you probably saw it too), then it switched back to the original lovelly avatar, but they did another switch :(.

I would just pass on the first one, 3N looks standard on the second one.

How do people think partner should treat/react to a 3 and a 3 bid in the 2nd auction? To me it seems like 3 should tend to show 3 spades - is this standard? 3 then is sort of any hand that doesn't know the strain - certainly this hand would have to bid that if you put the A in clubs. Should partner auto 3N with a heart stopper over 3? Just curious to see how people interpret bids in these auctions.

1. 4
2. 3NT (most likely you are going to end up there.)

1) I would probably bid 4NT,, although it may end up badly... Too rich distribution to pass on. We may make 5 minor or can be a good save.

2) It is interesting that no one has any trouble bidding 3NT... I would be very worried about hearts, with strong stopper partner will bid 3NT himself, and with some half stopper or needing help, like Qxx, he would bid 3H. So I expecting to have Jxx or less in hearts, and probably nothing. And heart lead is a stand out for defence. It is very likely defence can cash 4 hearts when regaining the lead with clubs ace for example. I must bid 3H now, to help partner evaluate prospect for game, and I agree, it is better to be played from his side this time, no matter powerhouse will be dummy.

Only two reasons, Han? I can think of at least 4 reasons.
