Immediate inclination is to take the spade Ace and play clubs AK, then if you tell me the Queen hasn't fallen, I'll play another club intending to throw a spade.

North should bid 3NT instead of 3... What, this is about the play?

Oh well, AK and a low one. Why? Well, it just "feels" right. We'll take it from there depending on what happened thus far....

Agree with all of this.

Any significance to the black heart and club symbols in the South hand?

If this is matchpoints, I need to determine how 3NT fails.

For convoluted reasons that I started to type, I like the whereagles line of ruffing out a club. The lure of a finesse of diamonds toward my hand seems wrong because I think that the heart Ace is behind the King too often when 3NT fails.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Whereagles ruffed the third club? I don't think I agree with him and all the rest now.

Didn't say that. Just play AK and another club and see what happens. If everyone follows so far, pitching the spade seems right.

hum.. since the rest of the field will be playing 3NT, it seems fair to try for an overtrick and beat people that made 3NT on the nose by playing a heart (they lose 3 spades, 1 heart). You can't beat people that risked the club finesse and made 11 tricks in NT anyway.

So ruff with the 8 and hope for the best....

I'll stick with the spade discard.

If clubs are 42, and I can make 5D on a cross ruff, I might get a reasonable score. Easier to cross ruff if I throw a spade now, I think. If West continues clubs, I'll ruff with the eight.

Your deck has clowns on both sides :) not only are the colors crazy there are two C7s!! I feel like I would cash A D first. If RHO has the Q and it's coming down it, looks like either playwill work. If you pitch, E may ruff and exit a D , you may lose a second H if W started with JXX D. cashing the AD first prevents this. Anyhow I'd ruff the C9 with the 8 or 10....probably wrong but 3NT needs a lot of luck to make with the almost certain S lead. 5D isn't a terrible place to be at IMPs
