3S. Sick. Suit should be much better than this. This is one hand I'd feel ok about opening 1N with a 6 card major. 2S is probably the right bid but I just can't bring myself to it.

I bid 2 and raise 2 to 3 in case I get the chance.

I had this hand at the table and considered all of these.. opening 1NT, opening 1S and rebidding 3S, and opening 1S and rebidding 2D. I did open 1S but I didn't have to think hard about a rebid, partner made a Bergen raise.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Hi,

interpreting your comment, as saying
1NT is forcing, 2S.
Assuming 1NT is non forcing, it gets tougher,
3S, but 2S is a close second.

With kind regards

2, 2 and 3 are all good ways out of a not-so-confortable situation. The right one depends on pard, opps, state of match and how lucky you feel :)

2, but opening 1NT originally would not have been a bad idea

100% ---2d and nothing else

much too good to bid 2

suit much too lousy to bid 3s.

opening 1 nt with a 6 card major ?

I realize im throwing tons of MPs each year by opening 1nt with a 5cM. So im sick to still do it but im not mad enough to do it with a 6M.

2d could be fairly strong and could be 3 card anyway so whats the problem ?

If partner pass he probably got 4d/5d and a stiff spades and you should still gonna get a decent board because of all those who went overboard (2nt can go down even if partner got some good values).

wont surprise me if 2nt go down despite our 26 pts.

for those who bid 2
what do you do over 2 partner rebid ?

guess ill bid 3

This is another where I want to bid 2C. 2D is too likely to be passed. 2C allows bart, which is great. This 2C works great if 2D shows 4 and 2C only 2. This makes my bid "natural."

2 RITON, followed by 2. Let partner work it out without struggling in 3 on misfit if that is what we have.

I haven't ran any hands through K and R in awhile. Personally, I've had some bad boards because I've overevaluated borderline hands with a HH doubleton somewhere.

K and R calls this a 15.2. Make the Q a spot and its 14.3. So a 2 rebid is heavy, but reasonable.

Another upside to 2 is that my greedy RHO may balance over 2 on our misfit :P

I don't mind a 1N opening, but only at MP's.

Obviously, I wouldn't have asked the question if I was playing Riton.

Wow that's cool !

About 2 years ago I posted a similar hand (6322 with even worse 6cM suit), and asked to the forum posters if they would agree with my choice of opening it 1NT (to avoid rebid problems etc etc).

I was literally buried by a pile of disapproving replies (except Cascade who quoted the only time he opened 1NT with a 6cM, his pard xferred to that major!!!!)

Nice to see a World Class player considers it among the alternatives ;)
